Zoetrope Screenplay Contest

I just found out the results, and although I didn’t win the grand prize, my script made it to the quarterfinals of the American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest. That in itself is pretty cool considering how many thousands and thousands of entries they had.

Douglas County Libraries Writers Conference

Posted by admin on 05 Aug 2009 | Tagged as: Books

Hi everyone, the third annual writers conference will be taking place Saturday October 10th, 2009 from 8:30-5pm at Castle View High School in Castle Rock, Colorado. I will be a faculty member teaching two workshops, so try to attend if you can. It will be an all day event for a small fee. My application was chosen from a long list of potentials.

I’ll be teaching the art of creating a short story and dialogue is key to any great story. It is my first time attending this writers conference, and teaching at this writers conference, so it should be an exciting time. I will also be selling my novel, Lie With The Devil and signing copies at the writers conference, so attend, or stop by and pick up a copy.

You can find out more on this writers conference and attending from the Douglas County Libraries website and sign up for my workshops before the class gets full!

Formula One Racing

Jenson Button wins the first Formula One race of the 09 Season!

A one-two place finish was a spectacular way to start off the 2009 season of Formula One for team Brawn GP. Formerly known as Honda till ownership was passed to team principal Ross Brawn in early march, the team was renamed to Brawn GP, and Sir Richard Branson of Virgin, is in on the action. With several familiar faces returning this season and a few new ones, the racecar drivers came out poised and confident, especially one familiar face to FI racing fans, Jenson Button. Having a great qualifying day alongside his teammate, Button who had only won one race in his entire racing career, started the Australian Grand Prix in pole position with his teammate Rubens Barrichello in second.

Button who has had his fair share of ups and downs during his racing career, had a dismal season last year to say the least, but all that was instantly forgotten when he took the checkered flag and won the first race of the 09 season. All of his mistakes, all of his past losses was instantly put behind him with a fresh start to an amazing win. Perhaps team Brawn-Mercedes will be the team to beat this season with already a one-two finish for the first major race of the year, every other team is now taking notice. Jenson Button and his teammate are now a legitimate threat to other teams, especially to other racers like past 2008 FI Championship Winner Lewis Hamilton, who came in third but started eighteenth.

As the adrenaline pumped hard, and nerves skyrocketed this weekend in Melbourne Australia, Formula 1 again dominated the open-wheel sport as the best car-racing league in the world with the hottest racing circuit, taking teams and drivers all over the globe. Next stop in F1’s season, Malaysia, for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

With a few collisions, and a few tempers rising, what would a race be like without any of the drama? Nico Rosberg, a favorite among racing fans, started in fifth position and finished sixth for team Toyota. Nick Heidfeld who has steadily improved each season, started in ninth position with a tenth place finish for team BMW Sauber. Former FI back-to-back Championship Winner Fernando Alonso started in tenth position, coming in fifth for team Renault.

Now with the new powerhouse team of Brawn, McLaren, Renault, BMW, and the other teams better watch out, this newly renamed team seems destined for greatness, as Brit Jenson Button added his second win of his career to his name. Some are already calling it a comeback for Button, others say he was a late bloomer, but I think he just needed a fresh start with a new name behind him and a little encouragement from his devoted fans to start shining in the spotlight. This year just might be the year that Jenson Button wins his first Formula 1 Championship. It could happen, he certainly has the talent to pull it off, now all he needs is a little luck, and to be stationed at pole position!
